On June 23rd, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordination Luhut Bintar Pandjaitan, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Transport Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Investment (National Investment Coordination Agency) Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Land and Space Planning Sofyan Djalil, and North Maluku Governor K. H. Abdul Gani Kasuba and other senior Indonesian central and local government officials visited the Obi Hpal project. Mr. Lim Gunawan Hariyanto, CEO of Khalida Group, accompanied the inspection, and Mr. Zhang Baodong, General Manager of HPAL site, and Mr. Rico Windy Albert, PTL and non-technical support department of HPAL Company were warmly received.
In his address at the welcoming ceremony, Luhut said that PT. Halmahera Persada Lygend is the first factory in Indonesia to produce raw materials for power batteries for electric vehicles and he is proud to witness the start-up and commissioning of the OBI HPAL project. The launch of the project is a testament to Indonesia's ability to leverage its strengths in the field of new energy vehicle battery raw materials, and will also spur the development of downstream industries, which is of great significance to Indonesia's electric vehicle industry.
Luhut emphasised that the government will continue to support the development of the HPAL project in Indonesia, which represents the future development trend of the automotive industry and contributes to the overall reduction of carbon emissions and the protection of the natural environment and ecology. At the same time, with the construction and production of more and more HPAL projects, more local people will be employed and the rapid economic and social development of the region will be promoted. In addition, while supporting and protecting the development of HPAL project, the government must also vigorously protect the ecological environment.
Luhout then, together with four other ministers, the governor of North Maluku and Lin Jisheng, CEO of the Halida Group, rang the departure alarm to mark the first shipment of 5,500 tonnes of cobalt-Ni-hydroxide from Pt. Halmahera Persada Lygend for export. Then, Luhut and his party visited the autoclave central control room, asked about the HPAL project process with great interest, and wished the company an early production.
